BUILDANAX About Us

What Is Buildanax?

Buildanax is a whole new way to purchase a guitar. We're not trying to "re-invent" the wheel or change anything about the design of guitars...we're just changing the way you buy one. If you already own an electric guitar, chances are you've thought about owning a custom guitar one day. For most players, this often just remains a dream because spending $1500 - $3500 for a custom guitar is simply out of reach (especially in today's economy.) Guitars in this price range are great quality instruments usually made by very talented guitar builders. They have to charge a higher price (and reasonably so) in order to cover their time and expenses. Buildanax approaches it from a different angle. Our inventory consists of a large selection of pre-finished (and unfinished) bodies, necks, inlays, hardware options and electronics. All Buildanax guitars are assembled right here in America. Our parts are purchased from a leading guitar manufacturer outside of the U.S. Our supplier manufactures for many of the well known brands here in the states. We go to great lengths to be able to offer the highest quality parts possible. Since our parts come straight from the manufacturer, there is no middle man involved and that saves you money. Also, since our parts are pre-finished, we can assemble a guitar in much less time than it would take if we were building one from scratch with raw materials.

Buildanax lets you choose the color, the type of neck, the fretboard and inlay, the hardware options and all electronics so that you can custom design a guitar that fits you and your personal tastes. The first thing you need to do is go grab a cup of coffee, come back to your computer and spend a while on our design page. See what your dream guitar will look like by experimenting with our incredible selection of colors, neck inlays and other great options. Once you have designed your guitar, submit your order and we will build it for you here in our custom assembly shop in Easley, South Carolina, usually within a couple of weeks.

Buildanax offers several features that you don't generally find on guitars at this price point. To learn more about what makes a Buildanax guitar different, visit our "Features" page. We simply want to give you more options and more "bang for the buck" than you will find anywhere else. How many times have you found a guitar that you really liked but found yourself thinking "if it just had a maple neck instead of rosewood" or "I really wish this came in a different color"? Now, instead of you being bound to the mass produced limited options that a typical manufacturer offers, we put you in the design seat so you can decide how you want your guitar to look and sound. Once you play one of our guitars, we think you'll be pleasantly surprised. We will even give you a 10-day "test drive" guarantee, so you can't lose! How many guitar companies give you that kind of offer?

Who is Buildanax?

Buildanax may be a new guitar company but the guys behind it are longtime veterans of the music industry. Everyone associated with the company has been involved in the music business for decades in all areas of music retail, repair, teaching, performance and studio work. Our combined years of experience enable us to have a 'real-world' working knowledge of what musicians need and what a great playing instrument should feel like and sound like. As a result, each Buildanax guitar is assembled as if it were going to be our own personal guitar. Since each of us plays guitar, we all have a passion for building guitars that give fellow musicians an incredible value for their hard earned money. Take a few minutes and meet our guys.

Our Team

Danny Crawford

Owner/Partner and General Manager

Danny has been actively involved in some facet of the music business since his early teens. He began playing piano at age 5 and started traveling and playing with a local gospel group when he turned 13. He continued with that throughout high school and college and opened his own music store (The Music Maker in Easley, SC) when he was 21. He owned the store for 27 years and gained much experience in the field of music retail while being a dealer for most of the mainline brands in the industry. In the early years of owning the store, Danny continued playing with different groups in the area, and then in the mid 80's, he began traveling with many of the professional full-time groups in the gospel industry. Also in his teenage years, he began playing keyboards and bass on sessions for local studios. By the early 90's he was so busy with sessions, traveling with a full-time group (Karen Peck and New River), owning a retail music store and being a husband and new father, that something had to go. In 1993 he came off of the road, turned the daily duties of the music store over to a store manager and pursued a full-time career of playing sessions. Since that decision he has become one of busiest session keyboard players outside of Nashville. He travels about a 5 - 6 state area playing and producing at various studios for both part-time and full-time groups, mainly in the gospel industry. He has played on numerous #1 and top-ten songs over the years. His playing and recording credits include such groups and artists as Gold City, Ivan Parker, The Kingsmen, The Martins, Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice and countless others. Danny is also the author of the instructional book and CD entitled "121 Fills for Gospel and Country Piano" that is distributed by Mel Bay Publications. Though Danny is a keyboard player "by trade," he also plays guitar. Because of his years of experience in music retail, and his working with some of the guitar greats in the session business, he knows what a great guitar should play like and sound like. As one of the owners of Buildanax, Danny is very active in all phases of the company. "Everyone working with Buildanax is trained and involved with the assembly process. Even though one person may be primarily involved with the building of a particular guitar, we all usually have our hands on it at some point before it leaves the shop. This way we all have a chance to evaluate it, tweak on it, and give input to each other about every guitar that we build." says Danny.

Caleb Baker

Owner/Partner and Guitar Assembly

Caleb, like the other guys at Buildanax, is also a musician, and music has been a huge part of his life. Starting at age 6, with a set of drums, a bass guitar, an acoustic guitar and a run-down keyboard with half the keys working, he developed a life-long love for music. Spending countless hours practicing and playing music in the laundry room of his childhood home, he began to focus on this art in high hopes of joining the family band. Then at age 9 he began traveling up and down the East Coast with the family, playing drums on a few songs per gig. He eventually moved into the full time drumming position and stayed there until age 22. Around the same age, he began working some studio gigs that gave him the opportunity to meet several great musicians, many of whom he has looked up to most of his life. Currently, Caleb works for Music Maker in Easley, SC as an installer of pro sound / video systems all over SC, NC and GA. "There is music in every second of my life," says Caleb. Caleb also travels with a music ministry called Brothersake with his family. To be a part of an elite team that builds fine instruments that make this music we all love is a new journey for Caleb that has led to wonderful experiences. Now, having a part in this company has allowed him to be involved in building guitars for some of the musicians he has always admired. Caleb feels so blessed to be a member of such a great team with such a great product. And the music goes on.

Glen Chaddock

Guitar Tech and Assembly

Born on the west coast and raised in the south, Glen Chaddock came to the team at BuildanaX in August 2011. He has been playing guitar since he was 11. Now 39, his 28 years of guitar shredding definitely plays a part in building amazing guitars. He was one of those kids that grew up taking everything apart to see how it worked, from his first guitar to his mother's piano. Speaking of pianos, Glen is the owner of Greenville piano tuning and service. He was trained at the Steinway & Sons factory in New York. The training he acquired as a piano technician definitely enhanced his ability as a guitar tech. The regulation (set up) of a guitar is far easier when comparing 22 frets/6 strings to the regulation (set up) of a piano 88 keys/230 strings. By the way each key has 36 adjustable parts that all work together to bring you music from a piano. He's been known by other guitarists as a guy with great tone and owning guitars that play like a dream. Once again his experience in hand picking great playing and sounding guitars, plays a part in building amazing guitars.
